Beth Ann Hooper
Poetry in Motion Picture
“I have always believed there is a natural connection, or to be more succinct, a natural marriage between poetry and film. When I saw the German filmmaker Werner Herzog at the Eye Film Museum in Amsterdam in September of 2023, just before I moved back to the US, I got my confirmation.
Werner Herzog told film school students there that film should evoke the same emotion as poetry.
‘Nuf said.”
The Movie — Poetry in Motion Picture

Poetry in Motion Picture combines poetry from Haunting the Dead with film and an original musical score specially composed for the film that creates a cinematic experience of poetry.
The film can be seen on the film festival circuit throughout 2026 and 2027. You can find screening dates here once they have been confirmed.
The Book — Haunting the Dead
Raw and visceral, Haunting the Dead, from award-winning writer, poet and filmmaker Beth Ann Hooper, explores the heart-wrenching themes of love and loss, home and exile, motherhood and childhood, grief and joy.
Together with its sister project, the short film Poetry in Motion Picture, both works test and expand the boundaries of poetry, film and music in new and refreshing ways.
